Description

Pre-K can be overwhelming for a child with autism. Autism affects how a child communicates, behaves, and relates to others. This 203-page book is a great tool to help teachers understand the ways children with autism relate to the world. Each chapter offers specific strategies for teachers to use, including setting up a proactive preschool environment, helping children learn life skills, managing behavior, communication, and encouraging children with autism to play and help them to get along with others. Teaching Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder helps teachers connect with children in meaningful ways and allows them to learn and grow.

This Book is worth 8 clock hours in most States.

The information on Autism has changed in the last few years and this book does not reflect that. It makes echolalia out to be something to discourage, when gestalt language learners need to repeat the phrases to learn. It also discourages stimming, which can be helpful in sensory integration versus overload.
Some of the activities have confusing dialogue being used, like the my ball, Annie’s ball turn taking activity. It’s not concrete.
